Our latest game, Highway Hustle, just released in Itch.io. Highway Hustle is a luck and skill based game where you bet your coins and try to cross a busy highway. Every step you take earns more coins, but one wrong move and you’ll lose it all!
Highway Hustle is now in early release and very playable. We’ve spent the past week ironing out any known bugs and currently as of this writing we’ve fixed them all. That said, something is always bound to appear when the whole wide world starts playing, so please leave a comment below (or on Itch.io) if you find a bug so we can fix it. We’ll credit you for finding it on the official game page.
Betting & Game Mechanics
Highway Hustle is all about betting your coins in hopes to win more. You wager your bet and then try your best to cross the highway. The multiplier scales with each move, so the more moves you take without dying the more you’ll earn.
There are multiple coins scattered across the highway. Clicking start will move you to the first coin. To move further you’ll need to click the next coin, so on and so on. Again, each move increases your rewards and multiplier, but if you get hit by traffic you lose the round.
Skill Required
Highway Hustle is about luck and skill. Your clicking skills are an important part of the game. If you click the coin when it is perfectly flat the odds of winning that move are increased, so click wisely. Another important skill is timing your click when traffic has slowed down or stopped on the next lane. Clicking too soon might result in roadkill.
Watch Out For Traffic
Traffic is deadly, so be careful. If you get hit by a vehicle you lose the round, plus your bet and XP gained that round. Not only is there regular traffic, but each time you choose to move you might be hit by a rogue vehicle, so choosing when to stop and cash out is important. Traffic in the lane ahead of you will eventually slow and finally stop, so if you want to play it safe give it a few moments, but rogue vehicles are luck based and always possible.
Multiplier & Difficulty
The more moves you take in a round the higher the reward multiplier climbs. You can see your potential winnings in each lane above the coins. Increasing the difficulty increases the multiplier, but also increases your chance of being hit by fast moving traffic or a rogue vehicle.
If you make it all the way to the end you will be rewarded with a Mega Coin, which has a larger bonus multiplier than all the other coins. You are rewarded XP for every coin you collect if you win that round, and every level increases your odds of winning a move.
Winning
You win a round in Highway Hustle by either making it all the way to the big giant coin at the end or by clicking the Cash Out button after a successful move. You must make at least two moves per round to cash out.
Big Plans Ahead
We have a lot of cool ideas for Highway Hustle, here’s a few…
New fun characters – Currently there are two playable characters, a frog and a chicken. We want to add a total of 15 characters, so pitch us your ideas in the comments and we’ll add the best ones. How about a fox? A squirrel? Maybe a racoon?
Player to player Gem trading – We would like for players to be able to trade gems (the currency used to buy characters, and later items) between themselves in exchange for coins or other things.
Leaderboards – Our top players with the most coins and most gems.
Acquire and withdraw Gems – We have plans to add a way to acquire gems outside of the game and also turn them back into whatever that is. This could possibly mean integration with PayPal or via a Raptor account here on RaptorMeat.com to keep track of everything. We’re also considering implementing a way to trade Gems for PED (Project Entropia Dollars, from the game Entropia Universe) so that users of that game can earn PED by playing Highway Hustle.
Move to Godot game engine for extra features – Some time in the far future we plan to eventually move the game to the Godot game engine. We could then add more features and make the game run smoother in ways that aren’t possible with the GDevelop game engine.
Publish on Google Play (and probably Apple too) – A big goal of ours, but first we want to polish, add more features, and then repolish again for quite some time.
